But a little lightheartedness never hurt anyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So we&#8217;ll be looking at the reasons the following African countries, Tunisia, Libya, Morocco, Gabon, and South Africa, are topping the list of African countries with the highest depression rate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/africa.businessinsider.com\/local\/lifestyle\/10-african-countries-with-the-highest-depression-rate\/xs3rdgx\">Wisevoter report<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biografrica.com\/?s=Tunisia\">Tunisia <\/a>ranks within the top five worldwide alongside Greece, Spain, Portugal, and Palestine, with a staggering depression rate ranging from 6.52% to 5.75%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite Tunisia\u2019s vibrant culture, rich history, and stunning landscapes, the country appears to be the reigning king of gloom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It may be the country&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africanews.com\/2024\/02\/01\/tunisia-wants-to-borrow-billions-from-its-central-bank\/\">debt situation<\/a>. We hear Tunisia is facing a heavy public debt repayment plan in 2024, which amounts to about 12.3 billion dinars. An increase of 40% compared with 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s no wonder the country is feeling low in the spirits. But we want to assure every Tunisian that the Lord will provide, <em>Insha Allah<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for the second most depressed African country <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biografrica.com\/?s=Libya\">Libya<\/a>, we get it. After a <a href=\"https:\/\/libyaobserver.ly\/inbrief\/libya-draws-equatorial-guinea-afcon-qualifiers-final-round\">disappointing 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea<\/a> in a crucial AFCON qualifier match, Libya was left floundering at the bottom of Group J with just four points, dashing their hopes of a place in the prestigious continental tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With their inability to qualify for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biografrica.com\/?s=AFCON\">AFCON<\/a>, until perhaps 2025, it&#8217;s not hard to see why the country\u2019s mood might be a bit blue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ALSO READ: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biografrica.com\/2022\/09\/04\/depression-in-law-students-the-african-exponent\/\">Depression in Law Students<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biografrica.com\/?s=Morocco\">Morocco <\/a>might be the land of the High Atlas Mountains and the beautiful Legzira beach, but it\u2019s also the land of persistent drought. We&#8217;re aware that this often leads to an increase in food prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lack of affordable bread and tagines seems to be driving everyone a bit crazy when you think about it. Don&#8217;t quote me though!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biografrica.com\/?s=Gabon\">Gabon <\/a>occupied the fourth position on the list of African countries with the highest depression rate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabon might boast a high per capita income that would make other African nations green with envy, but the country\u2019s income inequality is enough to make you say hmm&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, many Gabonese are left wondering if they&#8217;ll ever have a slice of the national cake. This class divide is enough to put a frown on even the most optimistic face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s easy to see why <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biografrica.com\/?s=South+Africa\">South Africa<\/a> made the list. Thanks to their Nigerian neighbours, the country&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biografrica.com\/?s=Amapiano\">Amapiano <\/a>music scene is going through a bit of an identity crisis. The genre, known for its high-energy beats and soulful rhythms, was once a source of pride for South Africans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But now. Nigerian artists have been swooping in and dominating the charts with their smooth and catchy Amapiano songs. Remember <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bellanaija.com\/2023\/11\/olamide-asake-nominated-for-grammy\/\">Asake and Olamide earned a Grammy nomination last year for their hit song titled Amapiano<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s enough to make any self-respecting South African feel disheartened.
